Nicely targeted to the second-time architect.

My context: I helped build a system with a Rails "middle end" that talked to about eight microservices, and then moved that from Heroku to AWS. So I'm not a novice, but I still have a lot to learn. This book is nicely targeted at people like me. In fact, throughout I was thinking "I'll use this as a checklist next time I'm building a system" and then I was pleased to discover that the final, summary chapter is essentially that checklist.

My only negative comments are these:
* The writing up until chapter 4 seemed somewhat dry, then picked up its pace and became more conversational. However, the earlier chapters' topics are important (and used throughout the book), so don't skip them.
* There's some jargon in the text that's unexplained. Most of it I already knew or could puzzle out, but I'm still curious what a "full-fat virtual machine" is. A glossary would have been nice.
* There are a good number of useful references (with and without URLs) that I hope to check out someday. That would be easier if there were a comprehensive list of references at the end.

Note: I'm not a fan of code- or diagram-heavy technical books on reading devices, but if I were doing it again, I'd buy the kindle version.

Excellent introduction to microservices

This book is an amagelmation of the best practices for build large, scalable system. Topics range from: design patterns, API design, continus integration, continus delivery, testing, automation, virtualized environment and containers, monitor, security, database and CAP theorem.

All of the concepts are covered (not the implementations). When more details are required, the author recommends other (well known) books for references. As for software/tools, a few interesting ones are recommened, and it is up to the reader to investigate more details - Understandable as the software landscape changes rapidly.

Recommended reading for architect, engineer and DevOps!

Misleading Title

I found the title misleading... This is not a book about some new architectural concept or in-depth analysis regarding latest trends in Web Services. The book is an enumeration of good architectural practices with little value for the hands-on professional. (Little value not because they should be ignored, but because hands-on professional already masters them!) Very readable, with a good flow, the book covers high level concepts like: avoid tied couple components, event base systems, synchronous vs. asynchronous... and later goes on to common software practices such as: versioning, logging, deployment, continuous code integration, authentication and authorization... I see the book as a good material for a student starting in this field or managers trying to grasp these concepts. But I can only infer this was not the intended targeted audience.

James Eatock is an English freelance animator, designer, writer and publisher. He is commonly known on the internet as Busta Toons.

In 1997, James alongside Zadoc Angell created the He-Man and She-Ra Episode Review Website. The website was primarily Zadoc's idea and James had little interest in contributing to it during its initial developmental stages. However, it went on to become one of biggest websites dedicated to the He-Man and She-Ra animated series, attracting many visitors including much of the original creative staff, and earning the pair reputations as He-Man and She-Ra experts. The author lives in London, England, UK.

A Must for Any He-Fan

If you are a He-Man/She-Ra fan you've probably already ordered this book. If you haven't - DO IT. There's no more exhaustive tome that covers everything and brother I mean pretty much everything from these two series. Still reading it, but flipping through it I don't see anything related to Adventures of He-Man, the latter series right before they stopped making episodes for a decade or so. Amazing behind-the scenes artwork, stories about things that wound up on the cutting room floor, and hey...just what DID Orko look like without that hat? Fair warning, do some weight training before it arrives...this sucker is massive!

Great collection of information from every episode in S1 and S2 of He-Man series and She-Ra series.

This book is huge, being close to 1.75" thick, containing 590 pages. It is 12.25" H x 9" W in size. It's a heavy book. The binding seems to be strong and hold, but only time will tell if the binding will not be strong enough for continued viewings. This book has summaries and additional information from each episode from Season 1 and 2 from He-Man, and from Season 1 and 2 from She-Ra. See my pictures. There is a short 4-page section at the end of the book, that gives short summaries of episodes that had been approved, but were never made/produced. There are many sketches in pencil and in color, of characters and environments. The end also has a nice 1-page description of Lou Scheimer. The pictures I uploaded show the variety of types of pages included in this book.

About the Author
Paul Clark is the author of Stormy Skies. He worked for more than 20 years at Airbus, then established and managed AirBusiness Academy in Toulouse for 3 years before moving to Montreal to run the IATA Training and Development Institute for almost 2 years. He is currently working independently as an aviation consultant (Through The Looking Glass: www.ttlglearn.com). Paul is a Visiting Professor at City University in the UK, and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Planning to buy the passenger jets

The book is truly an amazing educational, self explanatory and informative document; that would defiantly help in this field. I have been working as an Airline agent for exactly twenty years in this field and learnt a lot from this highly recommended book.

If I were the head of IATA, I would recommend all airlines to have one at least in their technical library

I Don't Know What to Think

I liked the book. I really enjoyed spending time with Kett. I liked the fight in the bakery and meeting Blossom. However, I felt like during the actual treasure hunt that things happened through luck rather than by tapping into Jade's magic. The resolution of the various crises was all done off-screen with no explanation. So, as I said, I enjoyed the book, but character appearances seemed pro forma and the story was not as completely satisfying as it could have been. The ending was just abrupt. So, I would recommend the book as a continuation of the ongoing story arc, but it is not my favorite of the series.

Loved the adventure and the tension between the characters. I almost lapsed into a chocolate coma from the vivid descriptions throughout each chapter. Looking forward to the next book and next adventure...as long as it's filled with German Chocolate Cake and lots of peppermint with a faint hint of spice. Yum.

Great read. It's a great series and I love the characters. I missed kandy though, but overall still a great book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a world to lose themselves in.
