I thought I'd read all I needed to, but found a plethora of information in this book.

At the age of 57 in the space of 2 minutues I lost the sight in my right eye due to a vascular event. This book was recommended to me and I read it about 10 days later. As I am a physician most of the concepts were not new to me but they are well laid out and there is no medical jargon. Most of the techniques to compensate for monocular (one eyed) vision are fairly simple and you figure them out for yourself. That said, this book is a very useful guide for the newly one eyed and I would recomend it. It will probably shorten the time it takes to become fully adapted, to the new visual reality.

I am 72 years old woman. 6 years ago I lost my right eye to freak illness. My eye had to be
surgically removed.
I have perfectly fitted prostetic eye. You hardly can tell the difference. But when I needed to renew my driving
licence I faced the problem with DMV. Those stupids did not had a clue what "monovision" means and how it
Effect the driving ability. They said it is "disability", and This Book explains it as "inconvinience". Further than 3ft
in front everybody sees the same with one or two eyes. Showing this book to safety officer helped me to get my
driving priviledgies back!

Friendship, Love and Loyalty - not showing off and making an impression

I am delighted to add this book to my daughters' library. It's a sweet, kind, tender book about a little girl and her difficult decision to bring a tried & true, very loved doll to a party, even though she has several others which would be sure to impress her friends and win her a prize. This book has no sassy behavior, no inappropriate words, just a gentle story about love and loyalty and being a good, kind friend. It is slightly longer and slower moving than your average picture book, and the pictures are black & white with only a magenta fill, but my three girls (ages 8, 4 & 2) were absolutely captivated and delighted by the story. In this world of Facebook and the Kardashians, I'm thrilled to give my girls a book that teaches the value of loyalty and friendship over showing off and impressing others.

This was my favorite book as a child. I couldn't quite remember the title, but a librarian friend found it for me. I was so thrilled to have it once again. An endearing story your little girl will read again and again.

A Best-Loved Book!

Does anyone else remember this book from when they were growing up? As soon as I saw this one, it brought back memories! I loved the sweet story back then and was so happy to find it for my own daughter. It is a great read aloud and a perfect starting point for conversations about making decisions, feeling comfortable with the consequences of our choices and disregarding the reactions of friends.

The whole story, about a girl and her four dolls, takes place in one afternoon. Betsy needs to choose one doll to bring to a friend's party. According to the invitation, prizes will be awarded to the best dressed, the oldest and the most talented dolls. Betsy has dolls that would do well in all of those areas, but instead of taking them, she chooses Jennifer who is not at all likely to win any awards. Her dress is tattered, she looks older than her years and all she can do is smile. She's not the best in any of the prize categories, but she is the best loved doll. At least that's what Betsy comes to realize when she follows her heart and brings Jennifer to the party.

The illustrations deliver the same sweet and gentle feeling as the text does. Some are in black and white and some have a touch of lavender, but all are beautifully detailed and still appealing today. According to a brief account at the back of the book, the illustrator "wanted the art to reflect the timelessness of the story. So he worked to achieve a period look that was both classic and feminine." I also love the cover with the girl in red, waiting at the front door. She makes you want to open the door and go inside with her!

Great Book! Great Timing!

Great Book. Great Timing.
I just got free from a very long, bad relationship. Packed my stuff and grabbed my dog. Rented a UHaul and headed across the country to start new again. (I am 63yrs). Bought this Audio book to listen to as I drive.
I felt all the old yuck stuff leave, and the new stuff flowing in... There is so much inspiration.
Perfect book for anyone wanting to find joy and a better look at living.

this was a beautifully written book

This book touched my heart. Her words are inspirational. Her stories are meaningful. Throughout the book, I felt she was speaking, through her words, directly to me. It was if she knew exactly what I needed to hear, as I continue my personal life journey. Thank you. Meeting Oprah Winfrey is now on my bucket list.

I have followed Oprah since she began her TV show in Chicago. There is no other human being on this earth that has changed my life more, for the better, than Oprah. This book is so appreciated because it is a combination of all that she has learned and she is so giving and loving enough to share her wisdom. Oprah: I was lucky enough to be on your show, with three of my friends, one time. I have never met Oprah, but I couldn't love love her more. Thank you for the many years that you have helped us all to grow. I remember the tears that I shed when you retired from your daily talk show. I downloaded this book into my Kindle in the written and audio form, so I will be able to enjoy it for many years to come. Thank you so much for this amazing book.

The Human Animal Exposed

Desmond Morris wrote this book in 1967 and it is as relevant today as it was then. We are treated to a fascinating, revealing, serious study of human ecology interlaced with humor and insight that only a first rate, dedicated zoologist could provide. Chapters cover our human peculiarities of origin, sex, anatomy, child rearing, exploration/innovation, fighting, feeding, comfort; relations to all other animals and environment; population management or rather, our serious lack of it; and amazingly, even that special peculiarity of humans- language, religion, politics and economics along with insights into the serious lack of efficacy in our endeavors.

This is a true, bare to the bones, scientifically detached observation of the human animal and makes no apologies for "exposing" us in our varied and peculiar habits. An excellent eye-opening read, truly educational and enlightening!

For those who are interested in biology, sociobiology, ecology, etc., will no doubt enjoy what can be seen as a large expansion on Morris' theme in the book: "Mammal in the Mirror" by the daughter and father science team of David and Ilona Barrash. It is truly off-the-charts for a study of us quirky humans.
