Mark Hatmaker is the bestselling author of Boxer's Book of Conditioning & Drilling, Boxing Mastery, the MMA Mastery series, the No Holds Barred Fighting series, and No Second Chance. He has produced more than 40 instructional videos and he has extensive experience in the combat arts including boxing, wrestling, Jiu-jitsu, and Muay Thai. A highly regarded coach of professional and amateur fighters, law enforcement officials, and security personnel, he is also the founder of Extreme Self Protection, a research body that compiles, analyzes, and teaches the most effective Western combat methods known. Not what I expected: for beginner's only

It's just a catalog of fundamental counters along with follow-ups. I didn't see any esoteric or 'old-school' techniques in here. It's great as a catalog or a wall poster.
The most important part of the book is in the beginning where author points out drills for the reader in identifying/timing holes in the opponent's defense.
I was expecting more of this type of theory or some sort of a statistical study in counterpunching different styles of fighters.
I guess I was expecting too much.

There are some good tactics in the book but it is incredibly basic ...

There are some good tactics in the book but it is incredibly basic - if you were already trained in boxing it won't help you (it didn't help me at least). Also, all of the pictures that are used as demos for offensive/defensive maneuvers are inexplicably done by left handed fighters... it gets really old trying to reverse it in your head.

I absolutely love this book ! If you were like me and thought boxing was just about slugging think again ! After reading this book I realized how underated of an art boxing is . If you have studied arts like wing chun or southern praying mantis you will appreciate the knowledge and the similarities in parrying . No wonder Bruce Lee added more boxing into his art ! Boxing is truly the sweet science .
