Great to get a glimpse of the life of another character in the Hidden trilogy!

I wasn't fond of the Vancia character while reading the Hidden trilogy. Just because she's so cold to Ryann. I understand why & yes, it's somewhat justifiable. However, the author makes you care about a character, so when another isn't warm to them it can cause the reader to dislike the cold character. (Good hallmark of an author's ability to engage the reader, in my opinion.)
However, in this novella, I did actually grow to like & understand Vancia much more. It was nice to see that she really was a good person with a good heart like the two main characters in the Hidden trilogy insisted.
There's just one thing that bugged me about the Vancia in the Hidden trilogy and the Vancia in the novella. In the novella she has fond feelings toward a human & harbors no ill will toward humans and certainly doesn't look down upon them. She even says she sometimes forgets that SHE isn't human. However, when she interacts with Ryann in the Hidden trilogy, she certainly does mention Ryann's human heritage as if it's a stain and that doesn't sit well with me.
Other than that, I just really, REALLY wanted this novella to continue on until she saw Nox again in California when she & Lad barged in on Nox & Ryann. That scene would've have been AWESOME to see from Vancia's perspective & I was eagerly awaiting it the entire story only to see it stops just before King Ivar's assassination, months before she truly meets Nox face to face again.

Terrific Adjunct Story to the Hidden series.

This is a short-story that is an adjunct to her Hidden series. It amplifies the story through some of the peripheral characters and is very interesting in that regard.
Amy Patrick has written a fascinating series in The Hidden series. Her characters are fascinating and fantastic. The plot lines are rich and varied and constantly interesting. It is a most enjoyable read and this novella expands the development of plot and characters found in the Hidden series in a very satisfying way.

I really enjoyed this novella

Definitely make sure you have read the Hidden trilogy before you read this book in order to avoid spoilers. I really enjoyed this novella, insight into one of the side characters and seeing things from her perspective shed new light on the story. Also, since she had access to other information about the events, it provided some new revelations about a mysterious part of the plot. You won't want to skip this one if you read the other books (which you should, because they are also fantastic!)
