If you are interested in the "What if" and "What would it be like" in regards to the after life, then this book offers a beautiful and thoughtful vision of what that might be...Highly recommended and I intend to read it to my older relatives as they approach Crossing the Veil themselves. Beautifully non-denominational and transcends the dogma or restrictions of specific spiritual traditions but encompasses all with warmth and love. A God of truth and love could only smile at this travelogue of his "house of many mansions."

Great detail in equations of motion development

The book does a great job deriving equations of motion. It goes step by step in explaining axis systems, through Newton's 2nd Law to come up with E.O.M. The author then describes in detail how linear perturbation works, with step by step instructions.

I use this book in conjunction with Nelson's flight stability textbook for my Aerospace grad courses and thesis.

Dr. Yechout was my professor at the US Air Force Academy and I have to say that after nearly a decade since this course, I still remember how enjoyable the course and book were. The equations are laid out in simple, easy to understand approach that would be valuable to any student.

Gabriella leads a tortured life, suffering near-fatal beatings from her psychotic mother and drunken indifference from her spineless father. Eventually the parents divorce, abandoning young Gabriella to a convent, where she spends the rest of her formative years. Terrified of leaving the convent, Gabriella vows to become a nun; that vow is cut short, however, when the beautiful, gentle, good, and kind novice Gabriella catches the eye of a dashing young priest. Soon there's all sorts of mayhem: secret make-out sessions in the confessionals, illicit meetings when the nuns are away, and breathy, whispered phone calls. Eventually, Gabriella finds herself pregnant, the dashing young priest kills himself, and she loses the baby; she also gets expelled from the nunnery for this behavior. Like any true Steel heroine, however, Gabriella pulls herself out of these apparently insurmountable troubles to find both true love and a satisfying writing career. Too depressing for me

I like some of DS's work, but this was too depressing for too long. Even the happier times seemed haunted and dark. It's a personal preference, not an assessment of the writer's talent. If I'm going to go on an emotional roller coaster, I'd like the highs to be as intense as the lows. The abuse was hard to read and hard to believe (even knowing that parents have done worse). Thankfully, our society has evolved to one that supports the best interests of the child enabling teachers, family friends, and physicians to look for and report signs of abuse. I also like it when authors spend more time on the endings,taking the story beyond finding a love interest. We all know that's not the end of the story! It's a good thing, and yes, I like it, but what women do with their lives after living through a trauma or disaster, is often monumental and even more satisfying and inspirational. I think Gabbie had great potential as a writer, social change agent, loving mother, or a caregiver to victims of abuse. Whatever path she chose, I would have enjoyed reading about a bit of her happier future beyond finding a man.

You know, I've been a HUGE Danielle Steel fan for a long time now, so I was definitely looking forward to reading this novel. The summary of the story was a bit different from her other novels, so I decided, "why not". So off I went; I dove head first into the story.

I must say that I was expecting something very different from what was actually delivered. For one thing, the plot was saturated with twists and curves. It felt as though I was riding a roller coaster of sorts because I couldn't foresee what would happen next. Every turn took me in a new direction and I truly enjoyed that aspect of this story.

The other thing I enjoyed was that this story as a whole transcended time, meaning, it could have taken place at the turn of the 19th, 20th or 21 century. It's setting was quite malleable so you as a reader couuld picture this story unfolding in nearly any era.

The final aspect of the story I enjoyed was that it was believeable. Some of Danielle's stories are a bit out there, but this one is believeable. The reader could see how these events could happen to any young person at anytime.

So overall,"The Long Road Home" was a great novel. It is definitely worth reading, particularly if you're in the mood for something unique. Enjoy!

Another winner by Danielle Steel. After reading this story I felt as if I knew the heroine Gabrielle, Gabby. She put such depth into this character that after each tragedy she insures you alternate between crying and cheering for her. It's hard to believe that this is,a novel and not a biography! I can't wait for my next one!!!

About the Author
Laurie Schneider Adams received a Ph.D. in Art History from Columbia University. She is Professor Emerita of Art History at John Jay College, City University of New York, where she taught art survey, and at the Graduate Center, where she taught courses on the Italian Renaissance and on Art and Psychoanalysis. She has published articles on iconography and on art and psychology. She is the editor of Giotto in Perspectiveand of the quarterly journal Source: Notes in the History of Art; the author of A History of Western Art, Art across Time, The Methodologies of Art, Art and Psychoanalysis, and Art on Trial; and co-author (with Maria Grazia Pernis) of Federico da Montefeltro and Sigismondo Malatesta: The Eagle and the Elephant, as well as Lucrezia Tornabuoni de' Medici and the Medici Family in Fifteenth-Century Italy, and of 5 children's books (with Allison Coudert).

Text Book for Art History Class

Wow! For the summer semester, the advance notice from the instructor was to read the introduction and first three chapters as the material we will cover the first week. Dense. (Not "stupid-dense", "intense-dense"). Assignment total of about 120 pages, and I've been reading it for almost a week -- and still have one chapter to go! BUT, and this is the five-star reason for my good feelings about this book, it is not only readable, as in a non-preachy style, but utterly fascinating. If I were not a struggling old sophomore, I think I might even consider owning this book just as a fount of general knowledge about the foundations and developments of art throughout the world. If you are interested in the world history of art, get it, and enjoy it!

Took a really long time to ship

It took a very long time to ship but it did arrive within the estimated time. It seems they shipped it at the very last minute to make it within the delivery period. I actually called Amazon to question what was happening with it.

Otherwise, the book itself is very well organized and has beautiful pictures. While it's for a class, I will probably keep it rather than selling it back or trading it.
