Nutrition and Diet Therapy Review

I bought the book as a substitute for the Newer version, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. Its easy to read/learn from and the formatis easy to understand. My only complaint about use was that it is in slightly different order than the newer version, which made it a little extra work to find all the info I needed for my class. But, all the info was there, and I found it DEFINITELY worth it to save the $70 or so dollars to put an extra 20 minutes into studying for exams.

About the Author
OLIVIA LAING is a writer and critic. Her first book, To the River, was published by Canongate in the U.K. to wide acclaim and shortlisted for the Ondaatje Prize and the Dolman Travel Book of the Year. She has been the deputy books editor of the Observer, and writes for the Guardian, New Statesman, and Granta, among other publications. She is a MacDowell and Yaddo Fellow, and the 2014 Writer in Residence at the British Library. One of the best books I've read in awhile

One of the best books I've read in awhile. While relating her own "condition" of loneliness in the city, exposing, but not valorizing, her vulnerability, she does not dwell there - she seeks out the experiences of others - 20th century artists of the city - and allows her curiosity, not only to connect with/to others, thus somewhat assuaging her own loneliness, but also to empathize with and value such experiences - considering the usefulness - sometimes - of loneliness in the creation of art and action. Her "readings" of very different artists like Warhol and Darger are thoughtful and provocative.

I heard the author on NPR and I guess I misunderstood the book. It's closer to art history than psychology. You'll learn a lot about Hopper and Warhol but not so much about regular people struggling with loneliness.

What you always wanted to know about SAP HANA

This book teaches you how to implement effective and efficient SAP HANA “native” solutions also known as SAP HANA Stand-Alone solutions. It is not about SAP BW on HANA. If you have a solid background in relational databases, you will find many well-known concepts and surprising details. If you are familiar with ABAP programming or SAP BW development, this book will help you to adapt your mind to a new way of database modeling and development.
Do not expect another book rehearsing the stuff you learned for your SAP HANA certification or in the online documentation. This is just the foundation you have to bring. The book takes you from apprenticeship to mastery – it is not recommended for the beginner. But it is not easy reading. You should know the “terms of the trade” to benefit from the profound knowledge of the authors.
The remarkable characteristic is the highly structured collection of best practices, hands-on experience and runtime measure measurement covering the core features of SAP HANA. Almost three quarters of the 300 pages show precisely the behavior of information views, filters, calculated columns, joins and much more. SAP HANA offers with a lot of alternatives to answer a business question. But have you ever compared them in terms of their performance? The good news is: you need not – this book provides you with the necessary background knowledge to figure it out already in the design phase.
The authors analyzed the resource consumption (CPU time and main memory) response times in many situations which are typical when you develop a solution using mostly graphical modeling. You learn the surprising fact that the built-in currency conversion is much slower than a “home-grown” implementation and gain de-mystifying insight about CE functions and engine performance.
All the analyzed scenarios are based on a set of test data. Hopefully, the authors and the editor will provide in the next edition access the test data set they used for their work. I recommend replaying the more advanced technologies (e.g., impact of the KEEP flag, implementation of exception aggregation) on your own. This would make some statements in the book easier to comprehend. I am also missing more illustrations and examples in a couple of sections on advanced topics.
The scenarios are complemented with many references to SAP documents where the reader will find additional in-depth information. A chapter on general architecture challenges in operational reporting based on SAP HANA Stand-Alone solutions (also known as “Virtual Warehouse”) completes this most useful text book.

Become an Expert in SAP HANA Modeling !!

A real good book to start with for Advanced Modeling options.Very well explained about how to transform complex business requirements into HANA solution. Real time project issues have been discussed and proposed optimized solutions. Best practices are suggested to reduce the main memory consumption and reduction in execution time, thus resulting in overall performance improvement. Partitioning concepts are explained clearly. Comparison of different modeling techniques (developer perspective vs modeler perspective) and Background knowledge about different performance tuning techniques are well appreciated. I strongly recommend this book for Developers who are already in projects with good knowledge on HANA Modeling concepts and are looking for advanced concepts of SAP HANA Modeling.
We look forward to see the author's expertise suggestions on loading huge volume of Data in HANA, scheduling of jobs, CDS views, how best we can use tools like EIM, Performance improvements of calculated columns (like choosing Column engine AND SQL engine) to be discussed in the coming edition.

I love this little (5 inch x 7 inch) book with 100 flowing, captivating, very detailed, pattern illustrations in a wide variety of patterns. You are going to love every single picture in this book. There are even some 2 page illustrations.

This book includes An amazing variety of patterns, that include Flowers, Decorated Cups, Geometric shapes, a few animals adorned with geometric shapes, Leaves, Mushrooms, a couple scenery pictures, Fruit, Butterflies, fish and waves and more.

This is a perfect book to add to your coloring library for those times when you cannot get your head in the present. When you are thinking too much, about the past, the future, work, or timelines, and your thoughts are going in circles keeping you from focusing and enjoying the right now. Grab this book, choose an illustration and start coloring, within minutes you will feel yourself becoming calmer and your mind will clear.

1. 100 pages to color in this little( 5 x 7) inch book, printed front and back of each page, on heavy weight , bright white paper.

6. Tip: Fold the book backwards until the pages touch and hold it a minute to get the book to lie flat. The binding is well made and will hold up and the pages lie perfectly flat for coloring.

7. Tip: Remember not every line needs to be colored in pattern art, some shapes with small lines just color the shape and allow the lines to accent that shape.

This will be a little book you'll never want to be without!

Wonderful little bitty book to carry along in your handbag or tote with your colored pencils and color in it anytime you get the urge. Sometimes I have to play with pictures to find the words, so I'll make a collage to get warmed up.
My writing looks like lists and doodles until the very end when I write it out on the computer.
An early sketch in Tony Sarg's studio where they puppeteers are figuring out how to make the inflatable animals.
This was the perfect place to have a spread that had to be turned, just like the "upside down marionettes" rising up.
In a nonfiction book even the smallest detail needs to be accurate and I found this wonderful reference for a 1920's New York City bus stop sign that I used in Balloons Over Broadway.

Like Tony Sarg, Melissa Sweet loved to figure out how to make things move as a child. (She even remembers taking apart her own marionettes to see how they worked!) Today, she still plays with simple materials to construct her brilliant mixed-media collage illustrations, for which she has won a Caldecott Honor and two New York Times Best Illustrated citations. About this book, she writes: 　"As I began to research Tony Sarg, I was especially curious how he went from illustration and puppetry to designing the huge parade balloons. After I spent five years reading everything I could find on him, the Macy’s parade, and puppetry—then traveling all over the map to talk to puppeteers—it seemed incredible that so few people knew of his work. I love this book!

Both of my boys - age 6 and 10 - loved this book. It's a story about problem-solving and innovation, as well as a lovely tribute to Tony Sarg, the creator of the Macy's balloons. Both of my boys were impressed with the biography, and found the story compelling. Additionally, the book is absolutely gorgeous --- Sweet's artistry with mixed media and her ability to layer graphic elements make the book both beautiful and visually interesting. Highly recommend: a perfect read at Thanksgiving time --- and any time.

A Top Book of the Year for me

In a happy turn of serendipity, I recently found myself enjoying two new children's books about things that fly.

Balloons over Broadway, written and illustrated by Melissa Sweet, and The Fabulous Flying Machines of Alberto Santos-Dumont, written by Victoria Griffith and illustrated by Eva Montanari, both transport the reader back to the early years of the 20th century, before television and Pokemon. A hundred years ago, children played with sticks and rocks. At least, that is, when they weren't too busy working. In 1910, two million children under the age of fifteen were employed (some would say 'enslaved') in industrial jobs in the United States. This left little time for reading or anything else. Child labor reform would soon lead to improvements in public education--now children needed to be looked after during the day--and effectively ushered in a second Golden Age of children's literature, adding soon-to-be classics from giants like Dr. Seuss, Virginia Lee Burton, and Robert McCloskey to the canon populated by Alice and Pooh.

Now it's 2011. Today's kids have it better, at least in some ways. Life expectancies are up and industrial accidents are down. On the other hand, youngsters often very easily fall into the trap of 24/7 branded characters and hand-held devices. Parents must try harder than ever to pull children away from video games and instead nurture their own imagination. So you want something entertaining but also illuminating? Step right this way! Learning isn't just for kids, anyway. I'm no toddler myself, but I had no clue about the origin of the balloons in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. And I would have claimed that the Wright Brothers invented the airplane. Clearly, reading books with your children is an opportunity not only to spend time together, but also to share in the discovery of knowledge.

I found it inspiring to learn about these two pioneers, Tony Sarg ("rhymes with aargh!") and the melodically-named Alberto Santos-Dumont. The former was a child at heart who claimed that he had "never done a stroke of work in my life," while the latter naively believed that harnessing flight would lead to world peace: "Once people are able to fly to different countries, they will see how much we have in common. We will all be friends." Sarg and Santos-Dumont worked tirelessly for the benefit of others. Worthy role models, both.

Sweet's book has an official release date of November 1st, while Griffith's book came out two months ago. Both are large hardcovers with top quality printing and paper. Both also include biographical information presented as Author's Notes, so you can flesh out the stories after doing a little postscript cribbing, or simply let an older child explore further on their own. (Please note that Santos-Dumont took his own life, sadly. Although not mentioned in the other book, Sarg, too, died under less than fairytale circumstances: bankrupt and from a ruptured appendix.)

Both books, too, are written for the same age range (4-8) though I think the upper end is best for the Griffith book, the better to appreciate the more mature Impressionist-inspired artwork by Eva Montanari. This same book also contains a high ratio of words per page which may test the patience of a younger audience.

I would be shocked if anyone has an attention problem with Melissa Sweet's balloon book. But I wouldn't be surprised if it pulls in some kid lit awards at the end of this year. She is already a Caldecott Honoree for her illustrative work, and when you see the tactile world full of mixed media puppetry that she has created here, you will not be surprised, either. I can't remember how many children's books I have reviewed in 2011--Amazon discontinued their tagging feature some months ago--but this was for sure one of the Top Books of the Year for me. You and your child could spend hours looking at every single page. Even the endpapers are eye candy.

Balloons over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy's Parade and The Fabulous Flying Machines of Alberto Santos-Dumont should both be added to your bookshelf. I hope the authors get the attention and recognition they deserve. They certainly have mine.

Very interesting story, my kids were fascinated.

As a homeschooling mom I am constantly on the search for interesting, informative books. I ordered this book prior to Thanksgiving and we DVR'd the Macy's Day Parade (because Thanksgiving morning is busy family time) the next day we sat down and watched the parade and then re-read the book and discussed the making of the balloons which provoked some interesting conversations about creativity and why rubber wasn't available during the war. I really appreciate children's authors who tackle biographical and historical topics and make them colorful and interesting to younger children. FYI my children are 5 and almost 7.
