Happy Homemade: Sew Chic Kids

Simple, classic patterns for boys and girls. Diagrams and simple instructions along with a variety of styles and sizes makes this a "must-have" book for intermediate and advanced sewers. The only problem I had was in the actual patterns that DON'T have the seam allowances OR hems added. It was clear that the seam allowances had to be added, but it was not as clear that the hem allowances were also to be added. Once that was clarified, the patterns went together beautifully.

Great for newbies to Japanese pattern books

I sew clothes for my boys and the shorts, pants and hoodie in this book made it worth the price. The patterns are easy to find on the pattern sheets, outlined with frixion highlighters and taped to a sunny window and you can trace the highlighted pattern easily. Don't forget to add your seam allowances before cutting the traced pattern, they aren't incorporated in the pattern you trace. Erase the frixion highlighter marks with a medium hot iron and you're ready to fold and reuse. This is a popular book and there are many tutorials online if you get stuck on some of the instructions. I am still new to sewing apparel (I have quilted in the past), and the shorts came out better than I could have imagined. Though I did have to make a size smaller than what he wears from the store. He is a size 5T and I had to take in the size 4 pattern to fit him.

Great bang for your buck.

You get so much for the price! This is my third japanese sewing book, and once you get used to tracing the patterns and adding seam allowances, it is quite easy. I but rolls of children's easel paper, tape in a window and trace. I made the long flaired shorts in a pink linen for my daughter. They are great for school because they look a bit like a skirt, but are great for playing in and easy to make.

Worthwhile Book for everyone into psychoctive alchemy to check out and learn some things

There is a lot of information here about cooking and extracting psychedelics plants. Much of this information you will find on the web, but the good thing here is that it is all in one place, and these actual instructions and guides are quite simple and brief, rather than complicated and unecessarily technical as many are on the web.

SWIM's cook book also covers more fiddly things (such as growing large DMT crystals, separating DMT from 5-MeO-DMT, purifying Sodium Carbonate etc) so that even an experienced person will likely find some techniques and ideas here to further develop their alchemical expertise.

However, looking at the ayahuasca recipes for example, 2-3 grams per person of rue is not always enough, with 3-4 grams most people will need. Also, the recommendation of 20-30 grams of Caapi vine may not be enough for many people and I would suggest 70-100 grams per person.

So I would also use this book in conjunction with information you find on the internet as not as a "bible". You get the sense reading it, also that the author could flesh out some more topics, write more about particular topics and include more images. The Kindle version is laid out in a simple, very much self published style, in a no nonsense format, and there is also a few little trip reports and advice at the end.

Overall, I think it is a worthwhile book for everyone into psychoactive alchemy to check out and learn some things.

As a student of translation I highly recommend this book to any student or teacher of English language. I really love the Practical English Usage (PEU) which has helped me to study English since I started university and when I saw this book I couldn't help buying it. I think this book is what we were looking for after the PEU (which has all the grammar of English language and doubts you can think of). We find three different levels of tests to use with the PEU Third Edition: upper intermediate, advanced and expert. The tests are really easy to do and it only takes round 10 - 15 minutes to complete them. After correcting them we will be able to discover how much of the grammar from PEU we have learnt.

Grade 6-9-Claidi, an orphaned lady's maid to a cruel and mindless princess, jumps at the chance to escape with a handsome air balloonist who has been shot down and imprisoned. Leading Nemian through the dark tunnels and out into the Waste, however, she begins to have second thoughts, which she records regularly in the journal entries that form this enjoyable fantasy. Through encounters with tribes that seem kind, and fierce desert bandits, she learns that appearances can be deceiving. When she shows interest in Argul, leader of the bandits, Nemian pleads with her to keep on traveling with him to his home. Nemian's City and its ruling Wolf Tower are bleakly stark and sad, completely bound by rules and the roll of the dice. It turns out that Nemian's quest was to bring Claidi to his grandmother as her successor. Realizing that the punishing cruelties under which the people lived were products of the old lady's twisted imagination, Claidi takes over and breaks the Rules, proclaiming there is to be no more LAW, before being rescued, yet again, by Argul. The satisfying conclusion completes the story but leaves plenty of room for Claidi's journals to continue in sequels. The fantasy world is clearly and humorously described; its varied cultures are both amusing and believable. In spite of her moodiness, the practical and strong-willed Claidi is a likable heroine with whom fantasy readers can easily identify and they will look forward to her continuing adventures.

Lee (Saint Fire, not reviewed, etc.) opens a new series framed, belt and suspenders, in chapters and diary entries. Having grown up serving a petty, vicious princess, Claidi jumps at the chance to help in the escape of Nemian, a handsome, imprisoned prince. In their journey across the barren Waste, the pair weather dust storm and monster attack, pass through towns where sheep and clocks are worshipped, and encounter the Hulta, nomads led by Argul, a kingly youth who takes a shine to Claidi. She is attracted to him, too, especially after he rescues her from a sacrificial rite, but though familiarity has worn some of Nemian’s glitter away, Claidi decides to go on with the prince to his home in distant Wolf Tower. To her dismay, she discovers that Nemian is already married, and that she is the victim of an elaborate ruse designed to force her back into servitude. Lee gives Claidi a modern-sounding voice—believing that some of the Hulta voted against her rescue: “Now when I talk to them, I wonder which ones didn't think I was worth the trouble. I don't blame them. But yuk”—and regards the religion and politics of the Waste's residents sardonically. In the end, Argul rescues her again, and off the two ride into upcoming sequels. Wolf Tower

** spoiler alert ** This was a quick and enjoyable read. The main character was very likable, and I found myself rooting for her the entire time. There were times I was confused as to who I wanted to see her with, as the one male does a great job in deceiving not only Claidi but the reader as well! I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!
The author describes a new world in a way that the reader can picture exactly what Claidi sees. I am curious as to how the House and Garden, the Waste, and the other cities all came to be. I hope that we are rewarded with this history in the following books.
The writing is endearing; it is Claidi writing in her stolen journal, and the words are definitely that of a young girl writing her feelings. I enjoyed how she used "filthy word" when she refused to repeat swear words that were spoken. There were also a lot of (?)s and (!)s to accompany observations that she made. The reader also was allowed to witness her slowly understanding new phrases and ways of life.

This being the first book I had ever read by Lee, I didn't have much to go on concerning the author's style. I'm glad to say, though, that there was little disappointment in this book. Lee has written an exciting and fun read that I highly recommend to anyone who doesn't mind surprises, both good and bad, and a lot of adventure.

This book has opened me up to many of Lee's works of fiction and I'm pleased to say that she is now a favorite author of mine. If you ever have the chance to read this story, don't pass it up. Even if it turns out not to be one of the greatest things you ever read, I'm sure it'll be one of the better books that you remember fondly.
